Roll Mechanism

The manufacturing of components was done in the machine shop at the Fluid Mechanics Research Laboratory located on FSU’s main campus.  All components manufactured by the design team are made from 6061-T6 aluminum alloy.  The raw materials for these components were donated by the Fluid Mechanics Research Laboratory at Florida State University.  Machining of various components were done on conventional milling machines, conventional lathes,  and a CNC machining center.  Programming of the CNC machining center was done using a CAM software package called FeatureCam.  FeatureCam allowed the design team to import model geometry from Autodesk Inventor and convert the geometry into the machine tool paths necessary to machine the necessary features.
