Competition

The American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) holds multiple design competitions each year. One such competition is the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge.  A human powered vehicle facilitates transportation using the human muscle as its power source. These vehicles can be used in the air, water, and on land.

This annual competition is broken up into three vehicle categories: single-rider, multi-rider, and utility. Each category has its own specifications and rules on what the vehicle is supposed to accomplish. The competition focuses on design, safety, and performance.

This competition is open to all ASME chapters and has been used by FAMU/FSU College of Engineering as the capstone project for our senior design team. The 2007 ASME East Coast Human Powered Vehicle Challenge will be hosted by the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL, on May 11-13.
