- aptoncd. Saves your packages to a DVD.
- dar-static. For backups.
- dvd+rw-tools. OK. To write CDs and DVDs.
- firestarter. A firewall.
- gcc. OK. Compiler collection.
- gifsicle. Makes moving gifs.
- gimp. OK Photoshop clone.
- gnuplot. Scientific plotting package.
- gpg. OK. To encrypt files.
- gthumb. Image viewer with thumbnails.
- gv. Postscript/pdf viewer.
- lshw. OK. Shows system configuration.
- netpbm. Graphics manipulation.
- ntfs-3g. OK. Allows MS Windows disks to be mounted with write
support.
- octave octave-htmldic octave-epstk octaviz. Matlab clone.
- openclipart. Takes a lot of disk space.
- pan. Newsreader like Forte Agent. For Mindspring on the east coast,
the news server seems to be news.east.earthlink.net, username
your Mindspring E-mail address.
- qlandkarte. To access Garmin GPS units.
- unrar. To unzip rar files.
- tcsh. My preferred Unix shell.
- wine. A Windows emulator. Eventually I will find a Windows program
that I want and works correctly under w[h]ine.
- wvdial. OK. To use a modem. Next time, bring the modem to the
install, then you do not have to run wvdialconf later.
- xfig xfig-libs transfig xfig-docs. Graphics drawing program.
- x3270. Old IBM terminal emulator that I need to access student
records. Must get fonts xfonts-x3270... May issue WARNING:
/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc does not exist
- xclip. Makes clipboard available.
- xloadimage. Command line graphics viewer.
- xpaint. Graphics program like MS Paint, but more powerful.
