This is a simple description of how I installed Linux and applications on my Fujitsu Lifebook S6520. It may help an audience like me, one that is relatively computer-literate, but not an expert. In particular, it is assumed that you know how to use a Unix command line (in other words, the terminal). You may be able to get away without knowing that for simple system configurations, but don't complain to me if you get into trouble. Remember that Linux has hidden files, whose names start with a point, that only show up if you select "show hidden files" or with the command line if you do ls -a.
