About Our Project

The goal of this project is to create an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capable of assisting in search and rescue missions. Our sponsor, Mr.David Merrick the director of FSU's Department of Emergency Management, has previously sponsored another Senior Design team to create a vehicle that would perform image processing during search and rescue missions. Our sponsor has tasked our team to focus on flight time, flight range and camera stabilization. These improvements will be accomplished through changing the vehicle type from a hexacopter to a flying wing and massively upgrading the communication system. The use of this drone will range from wide-area surveys of disaster situations to locating targets using aerial footage and image processing.
