TEAM MEETINGS LOG SHEET
Project Name: NASA
(Shih)
Team #: 13
Meeting #: 11
Date: 10/13/2008
Discussions:
- Meeting
with Customer
- We presented
the Customer with our final product for the Concept Design Deliverable.
This included the concept screening and scoring.
- As
earlier stated, the customers input would make the final decision once we
narrowed down our concepts and we discussed the customer’s needs
further to make sure we were doing exactly what the customer wanted
- The
scope of the project was clarified and that narrowed down our concepts
down to two that were within the range and the customer left us to decide
on the concept to run with
- The
clarification to design was that the customer wanted a flapping wing robot
because it is unique and would require more design skill and mechanics but
would not require us to integrate a surveillance or autonomy system. That
could be worked out later in the design or even in later projects
- The
customer reiterated his motivations and that was to design a flapping wing
is more important than sticking to the “competition”.
- This
clarification was given because after the concept screening and scoring a rotary
wing ended up being the best decision for the surveillance vehicle because
of the ease of control and steady nature. The customer said that would be
fine but a surveillance and autonomous system would have to be integrated
and that would require less mechanics and more controls design.
- After
the meeting with the customer the team decided that making a flapping wing
design without the integrated systems is much more feasible than trying to
integrate something and have to design the flying mechanism from scratch.
The only reason the rotary wing was more feasible was because the
importance was centered on its functionality for the competition.
- A
dragonfly inspired design was selected by the team as our concept to
continue with in the design process.
Deliverables:
- Gave
the customer a copy of the concept screening and scoring
Comments/Suggestions:
- Consider
re-doing the concept screening and scoring with the customers clarified
motivations in mind to better choose a flapping wing design.
