Initial Design Concepts and Their Evolution

 

    As shown by the above photo group 6 initially cast a very wide net when developing the initial design ideas for this project. Some of these ideas were discarded after the design constraints of the project were determined. Once the initial design constraints were established team 6 decided to split the robot's components into five distinct systems: housing, buoyancy, resurfacing, sensors, and locatability. Due to the complexity and cost associated with it the team opted not to develop a sensor package for the robot in favor of using a third party sensor package known as the MAMMARK sensor package which will be discussed later. As the MAMMARK sensor package also contains an RF locator beacon, once it has been installed it will also satisfy the locatability requirement, therefore that system will not be discussed. The three remaining systems are discussed in the following sections:
