PROJECT OVERVIEW
The main
focus of this project is to find the expected steam economy of the Engelhard
Evaporator Sets. This will be accomplished in a step-by-step process. Starting
with finding the heat and material balances, heat transfer coefficients and
finding thermocompressor flow as function of motive steam. This project was
assigned on the 6th of September 2001, with the first company visit occurring on
October 6th, 2001.
This report describes the design
process that was followed through the fall and spring semester. A user friendly
interactive excel spreadsheet has been designed to track changes in steam
economy, when the vapor thermocompression inputs of motive and load steam
pressure change. Steam economy is defined as the total steam evaporated per
total steam used. The users can then analyze how the changes in the input
pressure affect the steam economy, and can then determine proper pressures to
run the evaporator system in order to obtain optimal steam economy.
